First Aid Training Courses - Overview

 

The following information are the latest guidelines as set out by the Association of First Aiders and the HSE for First Aider requirements for the workplace.

 

What’s new:

  • Introduction of the Emergency First Aider
  • New Emergency First Aid at Work one day course
  • Current three risk groups reduced to two hazard groups
  • First Aid at Work course shortened to a three day course
  • Introduction of an annual basic skills refresher course (3 hrs)

 

What you should do:

Review your current First Aid provisions; does it comply with the new HSE recommendations?

Keep in mind that the HSE also recommend taking into account members of the public who visit the workplace.

Check the First Aiders are trained to the correct standard.

If further training is required make sure you use an approved training provider, otherwise training may not fulfil your statutory duty.

Note:

The HSE recommend that members of the public who visit the workplace should be taken into account when determining First Aid provision.

In practice, a minimum of two Emergency First Aiders or First Aiders are required to cover planned and unplanned absences.

  • There is not a requalification course for the EFAW, the initial course is retaken
